Introduction

This book comes at a time of heightened concern about energy security and sustainability in the face of conflict in the Middle East, political uncertainty in Russia and the growing prominence of climate change/carbon agenda. Against this background, a number of developed and emerging economies are examining bio fuels. At the same time, more effort is being made to reduce reliance on imported hydrocarbons by increasing efforts to tap these conventional fuel sources domestically.
