ABSTRACT

Scarcity of energy is a worldwide concern nowadays due mainly to the skyrocketing oil price, and the world's strong dependence on nonrenewable energy sources (such as coal and oil). Despite the dip in energy prices, during the second half of 2008 and the first half of 2009 due to the financial crisis, most countries continued to save as well as to look for new sources of renewable and nonrenewable energy. Brazil is an interesting case study on this topic.
