ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we cover two aspects. First, we provide a brief summing up of major points the various chapter authors suggest the reader take notice of, especially how schooling can be improved for Chicanos. Second, we offer a broad-based framework that has some potential in working toward the realization of school success for Chicano students. We do so by approaching this arduous challenge via a wide systemic discourse, specifically: (a) by critiquing the most popular method to reduce the achievement gap between students of color and White students-the standards-based school reform movement; (b) by discussing the values of a very meaningful form of school reform-democratic education.
