ABSTRACT
This chapter describes and discusses extramarital behavior as an expression of the family emotional process. Offering a broader, factual, and more objective view of this phenomenon helps to explain the function of this behavior within the family in which it occurs. Extramarital relationships represent one version of the formation of a triangle whose function is to bind anxiety and stabilize the family emotional system.
