ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the regulatory function of the triangle at the level of the emotional system. Complex regulatory mechanisms are being discovered at the most basic levels of life. What was once known as junk DNA, for example, has been found to perform essential regulatory functions for the genome (Siepel et al., 2005). Are there unknown regulatory mechanisms involved in the guidance of individual organisms by their reproductive/social systems? Is it possible that people have little or no awareness of systematic processes that guide their behavior? If, as Bowen (1978) believed, there are orderly processes at the family and social group level to guide individuals, what are those processes?
