ABSTRACT

Ms. Garcia’s sixth-grade classroom is a noisy place, and if you come to visit, she is oft en hard to fi nd. Today, students are clustered in small groups, bent over note cards and diagrams they have assembled in order to determine whether Australian dingoes can co-habitate with marmosets-and just how much it will cost to feature Australian mammals rather than North American mammals. Ms. Garcia conferences with a group of student in a corner of the room, encouraging them to consider what would happen if they include carnivores in their plans.
