ABSTRACT

These two quotes suggest that man has known since ancient times the impact education and self-discovery can have on a person’s future. Each of us is a compilation of our own history, made up of a series of events and our reactions to them. These encounters trigger a self-evaluation, causing us to learn a bit more about who we are with each new event. This selfdiscovery is at the heart of career development, helping us to defi ne our choice of employment, friends, community interactions, and all of our other life roles. This life-long development helps us to become more clearly ourselves (Hall, 1989).
