ABSTRACT
The fortuitous combination of vision, political will, enlightened leadership, benign neglect or a dosage of luck, has created the infrequent circumstances for their preservation. It is indeed a remarkable achievement to have escaped from the relentless and destructive march of urbanization. They are truly the pride of the community and excellent object lessons for developing cities.
