ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a brief description of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and a review of its infl uences and histories. The perspective here emphasizes multiple approaches to CDA and foregrounds infl uences from European social theorists as well as Black scholars in the later 19th and early 20th centuries.
