ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at team teaching as a way of organising pupils’ learning. It suggests that team teaching may be used for all or part of a child’s learning experience, but that it is especially suited to periods where learning is presented as cross-curricular. The chapter examines some definitions of team teaching; various models which can be applied to it; its advantages as a means of organisation; and its limitations. The chapter also emphasises that team teaching is an advanced teaching skill which demands proper preparation and appropriate staff training. The chapter sets out advice and examples for those who want to try their hand at working in this collaborative way.
