ABSTRACT

Having established that developing and implementing an effective collaboration strategy is critical to improving project delivery and business operations, particularly in large non-collocated organisations and teams. This chapter presents an information management-based collaboration (IMC) methodology, a structured and practical approach for the design, selection, implementation and maintenance of a holistic strategy (including enterprise model, content model, systems and technology, implementation and change) to enable collaborative working within an organisation or within a specific construction project. It builds on the global vision for collaboration provided by the Planning and Implementation of Effective Collaboration in Construction (PIECC) framework by providing practical guides for developing focused information-driven collaboration strategies for construction projects or organisational processes.
