ABSTRACT

India has a comprehensive framework of employment legislation, which is aimed to provide social justice to the working class. We will be using employment law and labour law interchangeably in this chapter. This branch of law enjoys a special place in the Indian legal system. As per this thinking, most labour matters have been kept out of the jurisdiction of civil courts. Special adjudicatory bodies have been created under different pieces of labour legislation for expeditiously adjudicating labour claims. The Indian judiciary has played a significant role in interpreting these laws for the benefit of the employers as well as the working class.
