ABSTRACT

It is important to note that all studies excluded patients whose buying behavior occurred only in the context of hypomanic or manic symptoms. Lifetime bipolar disorder was rarely reported except in the study of McElroy et al. (1994) who found that 70 percent of their patients with CB reported a lifetime bipolar I or bipolar II disorder, whereas only 25 percent reported a lifetime history of major depression. Interestingly buying typically increased during mildly to moderately severe depressive episodes and decreased during hypomanic, manic, and severe depressive episodes.
