ABSTRACT

The detailed description of the MMFF and the PCSTF in Chapter 2 and 3 provides the groundwork for successfully applying the McMaster approach to evaluate and treat families. In this chapter we outline the implementation of our family therapy training program, established so that we could disseminate the model beyond our own program. Any reference to therapist training usually is omitted when explaining a therapy model. Yet even the best treatment model has limited value if it cannot be taught to others and transferred to different clinicians in a variety of clinical settings. Mindful of this, when Epstein and colleagues developed the model, they were particularly keen on ensuring that the model was readily teachable. As adjustments were made to the therapy model, the revisions became incorporated into the teaching component.
