ABSTRACT

Prelude to Chapters 4, 5 and 6 Having established a broad framework for the principles of cross-curricular teaching and examined how this applies to the construction of a skilful pedagogy and wider school-based pieces of curriculum reform, this chapter, and the following two, will take a more detailed look at a number of specific aspects of teaching and learning that can be developed through a cross-curricular approach. This chapter is focused on the language and literacy of cross-curricular teaching and learning; Chapter 5

analyses the impact of information and communication technologies; and Chapter 6 moves on to consider assessment and educational evaluation. In contrast with the previous chapters, these three chapters can be considered as more detailed, explorative approaches to key, common elements of all teachers’ pedagogy. As such, I hope that they provide a broader rationale for further studies on the development of crosscurricular teaching and learning.
