ABSTRACT
For me those first days in Kobe were filled with anxious hours delving into the Company’s position with our re-united staff, as well as constant community and committee meetings. As a member of the committee of the Yokohama Foreign Board of Trade, I was automatically drafted into the joint Kobe and Yokohama Relief Committees, in almost continuous session over emergency measures: arduous and sometimes saddening work, with so many interests involved in every issue. But it was stimulating to see what could be accomplished in the face of difficulties by the resourcefulness of a score of determined men working together.
