ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION This chapter aims to provide some contextual discussion on areas of health and social care practice. The current situation in the modern industrialized world is strongly built upon the processes that have become known as globalization. The following discussion looks at the dimensions of globalization and the processes associated with it, and the impact this has had on health and social care theory and practice. Globalization is framed in the context of current international policy and market pressures for trade and investment liberalization in health and social care services (UNRIGD 2007).
