ABSTRACT

In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics several Israeli companies won contracts to provide security during the games. Nice Systems was selected to upgrade the security network in subway stations in Beijing. Nice currently boasts over 24,000 customers in 100 countries, with 85 of the Fortune 100 companies on its list. American Express, JP Morgan and Federal Express are among its clients, as are an array of police departments, the Federal Aviation Authority in the United States and the European Space Agency. All incoming telephone calls to the Los Angeles and New York City police departments are recorded on Nice technology, as are roughly 90 percent of the transactions at brokerage firms worldwide. In 2007, the company’s revenues reached $519 million, well above the $418 million revenues of 2006. A company press release noted that in Beijing Nice would connect the subway stations to a security system to give “security personnel the power to identify risk, make optimal decisions, and take action that improves security” (Nice Systems 2006).
