ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses time use data to explore work and care regimes in the Republic of Korea (Korea hereafter). The National Statistics Offi ce (NSO) has conducted time use surveys (TUS) every fi ve years from 1999, with the aim of collecting information on how people spend their time during a 24-hour period. Through the analysis of time use data, this chapter aims fi rstly to analyse how individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds and different types of households allocate their time to paid and unpaid care work. Secondly, it aims to compare the monetary value of unpaid care work with various macro-economic indicators.
