ABSTRACT

By the time you start fi eldwork, except in the case of participatory action research you should have developed a well-defi ned research design as outlined in the previous chapters. Unless your study is entirely inductive you should also have designed some specifi c methodological tools such as interview guides, draft questionnaires, workshop activities and so on – although you may not be able to fi nalize them until you start consulting, interviewing or piloting. Finally, you should have read the relevant chapters in this book on ethics and data analysis so that you can make sure you behave and collect the data appropriately. This chapter is concerned with fi nal preparations for fi eldwork – including many practical ones – and the actual process of collecting and managing the data.
