ABSTRACT

In this chapter we argue that the power and potential of PBL is significantly strengthened when it goes hand-in-hand with a clear focus on the development of information literacy skills. We also show that, by engaging with a PBL programme, higher education institutions can build stronger, more collaborative links between academic teachers and librarians than might otherwise be possible. We suggest that when students are encouraged to engage in PBL, their levels of engagement increase both within and beyond the classroom, and this engagement becomes a lever that helps educational systems to reorient themselves in more integrated ways, in particular, when it comes to the development of information literacy.
