ABSTRACT
Green jobs are important because they bring together improvements in environmental protection and new opportunities for employment. Furthermore, those enterprises and workers trained in green techniques are likely to become champions of environmental protection, as they learn about its importance and also have a motivation to apply the knowledge that they have acquired. Construction has been recognised as having a significant impact on the environment. One notable example relates to climate change, through emissions of global warming gases (GWG). New construction as well as refurbishment give the opportunity to improve the environment in many ways, for instance, reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption, thus encouraging the development of new professional skills, leading to employment opportunities. The “greening” of the construction industry requires the development and implementation of new technologies aimed at reducing the negative impact of construction on the environment, and the delivery of enhanced performance by infrastructure. This green technology development requires new skill sets, new training methodologies and new entrepreneurs.
