ABSTRACT
In July 2009, a story about mass killings of Taliban prisoners of war in Afghanistan – thought to number in the thousands – returned to the front pages of the western press. The killings were alleged to have been committed during the 2001 invasion under the orders of Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, a former warlord within the Coalition-backed Northern Alliance.1
