ABSTRACT

Google Maps Road Trip was a live-streaming documentary produced and performed by Marc Horowitz and Peter Baldes between August 10 and August 18, 2009. The event was the first live-streaming broadcast of a virtual cross-country road trip. Using streaming video technology and the ability to scroll through map imagery using the arrow keys on Google Maps, the pair “virtually drove” from Los Angeles, CA to Richmond, VA, all while never actually leaving their respective home towns. Other websites, such as https://Flickr.com" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Flickr.com and https://Youtube.com" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Youtube.com, were used to visually augment their journey for viewers and participants of a live chat room hosted throughout the project.
