ABSTRACT
The U.S. Air Force plays a significant role in conducting successful joint and combined operations. These airspace operations are commanded by individuals who plan and support campaigns under time pressure and conditions of uncertainty. Joint Forces Air Component Commanders (JFACCs)* are three-star general officers who are handpicked to command air and space assets comprised of air force components, joint forces, and coalition forces in command posts throughout the world. The main role of JFACCs consists of planning, coordinating, allocating, and tasking joint air operations. Their duties include advising commanders on the proper employment of air and space forces, analyzing various courses of action (COAs), issuing planning guidance, developing operations plans to support joint force objectives, controlling the execution of combined/joint air operations, and coordinating joint air operations with other component commanders and forces (Department of Defense, 2005).
