ABSTRACT
The intent of this chapter is to provide a brief, annotated timeline of major events and individuals influencing the development of the field of gifted education. Awareness of the historical underpinnings and growth over time of gifted education provides useful context for the current discussions, debates, and directions of the field outlined in this textbook.
