ABSTRACT

DEFINING TERMS Given the variety of groupings employed in gifted education programs, it is important to clarify the parameters for a typical pull-out program. Borland (2003) defined gifted pullout programs as part-time services delivered by a special teacher, in a separate setting, with other students identified as gifted, typically focused on some form of enrichment or extension, although not necessarily related to what is occurring within the general education setting. During some period(s) of time each week, target students are “pulled out” of their primary educational setting to receive these services.
