ABSTRACT
Even the great impact a school program can make on a gifted student’s development and joi de vivre pales in comparison with the impact of the family from the moment of conception. Leaving aside the influences of parents’ genetic contributions and health on that of their offspring, there are myriad ways in which parents influence intellectual, emotional, social, and motivational development, as well as the other resources and opportunities their children encounter. Before looking to the home-school partnership, consider a few of the most important ways that parents-deliberately, unconsciously, or through pure luck-play their roles.
