ABSTRACT

Once performance standards have been set for a test it may be desirable or necessary to review or revalidate those standards for a variety of reasons. For example, there may be changes in test content, changes in test structure and/or administration mode (e.g., moving from paper-and-pencil to computer-administered), or changes in expectations and requirements for candidates or examinees taking and passing the test. If there are changes in one or more of these areas, it will be important for policy makers to consider reviewing or revalidating performance standards. If there is a new examination or there are major changes to an examination, the performance standards may be reset without reference to previous standards.
