ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on social innovation in the Quartieri Spagnoli neigh - bourhood in the historic centre of Naples – an area with a high level of physical and social degradation, and insufficient municipal social services, neglected by local and national governments – where at the end of the 1970s a voluntarybased initiative, predominantly inspired by dissenting Catholic movements, started supporting the resident population in their needs for social services, housing and solidarity.
