Historical roots of social change: Philosophies and movements

In this chapter we trace the historical roots of contemporary socially innovative initiatives in Europe – especially as we have observed them in the SINGOCOM case studies – by reviewing the cultural matrixes of movements and experiments in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and their legacies in the twentiethcentury social movements.
