ABSTRACT

The preceding chapters, particularly those in section two describing the range of international success at identifying and developing talent, have highlighted the limits of our knowledge in this area. In this chapter, we draw attention to the theoretical and practical obstacles that impede our understanding. It is our intent that this chapter will be relevant not only as a plan for future research in this area, but as a summary of the boundaries of current knowledge that is intended to assist coaches, athletes and administrators in developing more effective sport policy.
