ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a way of working with teachers of students with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), which explores inclusive teaching and learning practices in an online format. The work is based in the south-west of Florida where recent legislative initiatives have called for the development of courses specifically aimed at this group of teachers. No Child Left Behind (NCLB, 2002), mandates highly qualified status for teachers of this group of students by 2010. The status can be obtained through successful engagement in endorsement courses that cover current evidence-based practices in identification, assessment, instruction, evaluation and transitions in the light of changing policy and practices.
