ABSTRACT

Public transport in the Netherlands has about an 8 per cent share of trips. When travelling by public transport, an individual has to go to an access point (bus stop, train station, etc.). The more time spent getting to an access point, the larger the total time required to reach the fi nal destination. Transferring between trains or buses during a trip has a similar effect. Furthermore, waiting time, delays and adverse weather may also infl uence the speed of a trip and hence total travel time. Thus, the need for and importance of integrating the different segments of the journey is clear.
