ABSTRACT

Research focusing on sport selection and talent development is often considered to enhance world-class performance as a result of several factors (Reilly et al., 2000). Multidisciplinary approaches have distinguished adolescent players classified as local and elite players (Elferink-Gemser et al., 2004; Vaeyens et al., 2008; Mohamed et al., 2009). Testing batteries are mainly based on field assessments and not surprisingly the literature using dynamometer assessment of muscle strength in young athletes by competitive level is still lacking. In addition, isokinetic testing can provide useful information regarding muscle balance which is very relevant for injury prevention and understanding the effects of intensive training. Research devoted to youth roller hockey is scarce. Hence, this study profiles the body size and isokinetic assessment of U-17 Portuguese male youth roller hockey players by competitive level.
