ABSTRACT

Prensa Comunitaria (Community Press) has ambitious goals for its work in Puerto Rico’s disadvantaged communities. When Prensa Comunitaria formally registered as a non-government organization with the Department of State in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in 2004, its stated mission was ‘to create and develop community mass media enterprises in the hands of disadvantaged communities and their leaders as tools to improve their socio-economic status’. Its threefold aims are to revitalize the communities and their leadership, to increase the accessibility and use of communications technologies, and to stimulate economic development.
