ABSTRACT

Margaret Kelly Michaels was a 26-year-old nursery schoolteacher when convicted of sexually abusing children at Wee Care Nursery School in Maplewood, New Jersey (Ceci & Bruck, 1995; State v. Michaels, 1988). Allegedly she had “licked peanut butter off children’s genitals, played the piano while nude, made children drink her urine and eat her feces, and raped and assaulted these children with knives, forks, spoons and Lego blocks” (Ceci & Bruck, 1995, p. 12). Yet, none of the parents had any suspicions that their children were being abused nor were any signs of any such abuse reported at the time these events supposedly occurred.
