ABSTRACT

Scholars representing a variety of academic disciplines, including theology, history, anthropology, sociology, and political science, as well as popular writers have produced a multitude of articles and books about the Christian Right in the United States. Too often, the Christian Right has been – and still is – depicted in an over-generalized manner. The many and varied individuals and groups who allegedly constitute the Christian Right disagree with one another about numerous, significant political, economic, and social issues. In adequately discussing the Christian Right, or any part of it, it is first of all necessary to identify specifically those individuals and/or groups with whom we are dealing.
