ABSTRACT
At the beginning of the twenty-fi rst century and in our global age, citizenship education programmes typically remain focused on the nation and citizens’ supposed natural affi nity to the nation-state. This is confi rmed, to varying degrees, in the contributions to this volume, one of the aims of which is to explore and theorise the relationship between civic or citizenship education and the nation-state, in the context of globalisation.
