ABSTRACT

JO Liska has provided an extensive review of academic literature that will be welcomed by academics doing language and power work (and thus should interest anyone doing communication work). She has obviously done a careful review of studies that consider many of the favored variables, including interruptions, qualifying phrases, hedges, and amount of talk. The review focuses on what these studies say about gender and dominance (even when the studies do not explicitly address dominance behavior). The review also focuses on empirical academic literature to the near exclusion of feminist literature from other genres.
