ABSTRACT
PROFESSOR Brown provides a cogent overview of the structure and functions of organizational stories, making a strong case for the importance of stories and storytelling in organizational life. My major frustration with her chapter, however, is its failure to capture fully the pragmatic value of stories for organizational development. This essay expands upon Professor Brown’s functional analysis of stories by examining the information retention and dissemination functions of stories in organizational life.
