ABSTRACT

For many large organizations, significant resources are commit- ted to receiving and processing large quantities of information obtained in small quantities from large numbers of clients. Insurance companies, banks, government revenue departments, and licensing departments are overwhelmed by data accumulating in small amounts from each of thousands — sometimes millions — of customers. The processing of premium payments, mortgage payments, property tax pay- ments, and radio licenses is work that is essential for providing income, or in the case of government agencies, is the reason for the organization’s existence.
