ABSTRACT

CLEARLY, communication studies has an identity, and in many senses we are doing well. Many feel that we have had our paradigm dialogues, displayed our mutual respect, and that it is time to go back to our work (and our associations with each group’s preferred other disciplines). But identity is not just something one gets; it is best thought of in terms of constant invention regarding changing environments. I think it is worth the time to be continually self-reflective as a field in regard to our current environment.
