ABSTRACT
It has often been said that the twentieth century was the time of two great technological revolutions—the first brought the widespread production and availability of industrial products, and the second saw the emergence of electronic communications and computation. At the turn of the millennium, it is argued, the second is displacing the first in importance, and soon will have a profound impact on urban form.
