ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the breadth of information and communication technology (ICT) available to teachers across Key Stages 2 and 3 and how it can support teaching and learning in physical education. The revised National Curriculum for Physical Education in England (NCPE) (QCA 2007: 195) suggests that pupils should be offered curriculum opportunities across seven distinct areas (a-g). One of the areas identified within curriculum opportunities is the use of ICT as a means of improving individual and group performance and tracking progress. The NCPE states that ICT should be used by teachers and pupils to: ‘Record and review performances and record data for the purposes of personal improvement’ (QCA 2008: 195).
