ABSTRACT

As this collection of chapters draws to a close, it is appropriate to reflect upon the central themes that emerge from it and to consider the likely implications of these for the future management of the sport industry. The worldwide economic downturn, which began in September 2008 with the demise of some of the world’s leading financial institutions, has cast a long shadow over many sovereign nations. It has also reminded us of the extent to which societies are interconnected with, and indeed interdependent upon, one another. Thus the issue of globalisation was one covered explicitly in several chapters of this book.
