ABSTRACT

“My husband does not want to come,” Sarah revealed of her husband, Taylor, when she made the appointment. Of course, I had heard that before, as have most couples therapists. The thought has often crossed my mind that if it were not for men, my caseload would be constantly filled. Men do not seem to relish the idea of going to therapy; and who could blame them? The counseling process asks men to step into a world that is typically foreign to them, and one that most have been taught to avoid since childhood. For most men, to deal with feelings and to think deeply about their relationship goes completely against their learned, rational tendencies (Deering & Gannon, 2005).
