ABSTRACT

For many years, managing change and uncertainty has been addressed in project management, without becoming more than an expert tool, used at special occasions. The author has implemented the successive principle as a practical management tool for handling risk and uncertainty in a large number of cases. This has given broad experience from a wide range of different project types and management problems. The paper examines three cases and summarise some of the main findings.

The paper includes a summary of guidelines for implementing the successive principle for project managers and moderators. In Norway we reach for implementation of risk management as a general tool for managers and practitioners in most kinds of projects. The main conclusion of the paper is that the successive principle and its practical approach to risk management in projects has the potential to give risk management a break trough.
