ABSTRACT

Change project management faces challenges and problems which are likely to occur in certain phases of a project’s life span. This paper presents a framework which connects typical problems to different phases of change projects. The objective of the framework is to help find possible problem areas in a specific organization and thus avoid problems. When different kinds of problems and barriers to development arise it is often too late or at least difficult to take corrective action. In order to help predict problems and reduce risk associated with them it is essential to identify their root causes. In addition to problems, this paper also introduces the cause-effect relationships of typical problems in change projects. The results are derived from several case studies and action research the authors have carried out in Finnish companies in different fields of industry.
