ABSTRACT

It has been acknowledged relatively in recent times that men, too, can suffer from postnatal depression. The phenomenon has previously been regarded as something attributable only to women and has been linked to changes in the woman’s biological functions in connection with childbirth (hormones) and with the very process of labor and delivery. The phenomenon has also been linked to something specifically female and to motherhood as such. There is broad consensus today regarding post-natal depression as a disorder related to becoming a parent and that both men and women can therefore experience this problem.
